Sunflower Fields Forever

September 16, 2014 by Dawn Pasco

sunflower field

Instead of strawberry fields forever it is sunflower fields forever in Lawrence, Kansas.  The weather was gorgeous in the Kansas City area this past weekend so I took full advantage of being outside and enjoying it.  I had seen pictures of the sunflower field on Facebook, but wasn’t exactly sure where it was located.  It turns out it’s right down the street from my brother and sister-in-law’s house.

The sunflowers are starting to wither and seed.  Grasshoppers, bees and other insects have been feasting on them, but we found a few that were still in full bloom.

This picture gives you the perspective of how tall the sunflowers are.

I’m grateful for the farmers in this world who grow beautiful  flowers and fruits and vegetables.  I hope this sunflower field planted by The Grinter Family made you smile.  I know it did me.   The Grinter Sunflower Field is located at  24154 Stillwell Rd., in Lawrence, Kansas.

How wonderful Dawn, had no idea we had such a lovely sight so close by! Thanks for sharing.

You should take a drive out there next year Helen. It’s very close to KU’s campus. Afterward we had lunch at Free State Brewery in downtown Lawrence which is a great place to eat.

They definitely made me smile, Dawn. Especially the “smiley face” one. What a beautiful sigh to see that massive field of yellow. I used to grow sunflowers at my old house where I had full afternoon sun. I don’t have that kind of sun anymore, but I still think sunflowers are so optimistic. It can be great to just chop off the top and nail it to a tree — the squirrels always come to feast!

I’m glad you enjoyed the photos Seana. It was pretty impressive to see so many in one place. I’ll have to get there earlier next year.

This post made me smile. I wanted to go there but just didn’t make it plus I wasn’t 100% sure where it was. I will definitely go next year.

Thank you Dawn and Chris for finding this Sunflower field and sharing it with us! I’ll look forward to finding it for myself next year….or maybe i’ll make my own little Sunflower patch.
    Very nice.
