Happy Halloween & Welcome to the Salem Witch Trials

October 31, 2013 by Dawn Pasco

#Salem Witch Trial Party

Imagine entering a haunted hedgerow where hundreds of lights and lanterns hanging on tree limbs light your path to a tent. Characters such as gnomes, clowns,  Abe Lincoln and the cast of Gilligan’s Island are mingling in the woods.   Costumes are mandated by law at this party and you would probably be put in the stock if you showed up without one.

My friends Anne and Julie throw an annual Halloween party and have become pros at putting it together starting with the invitation on down to the signature cocktail.  They are neighbors and their husbands have as much fun planning the party as they do.  Their husbands hang every single light, have made bars from recycled items, dance floors, and I’m sure many more things I’m forgetting.   A lot of love, passion and hard work goes into throwing this party every year, and I wanted to share the experience with you.  It’s hard for me to capture the true ambiance of the haunted hedgerow in pictures.   Some of the pictures were taken during the day so I gave them an eerie touch by using some Halloween special effects in PicMonkey.

#pick your poison

As guests entered the haunted hedgerow, they could pick their own poison to help them make it through the frightful journey toward the tent.  Once inside the tent guests mingled, noshed on appetizers and desserts and burned up the dance floor.

A bar was built between two trees using a hinge from an old cabana.

An old bathtub with creepy babies inside it served as a container to hold bottled waters.

#halloween bar cart

The Wizard of Oz watches over the bar cart inside the tent.  Remnants of the melted wicked witch lay on the ground.  We live in Kansas after all!

#owl costume

Happy Halloween from The Green Lantern (my husband) and me (an owl)!  Tomorrow I’ll be sharing some great tutorials for PicMonkey.  There are all sorts of fun editing tools you can use to make your Halloween pictures even more spooky.

Thanks Anne. It was a lot of fun editing them. I could have spent hours on picmonkey playing around. Thanks for hosting a great party every year. Chris says it’s okay if you decide to take a year off 🙂

Thanks Denise. This was the first year we didn’t match. Chris didn’t like my suggestions and I fell in love with the owl mask.
