Simple Joys

January 11, 2013 by Dawn Pasco

For those of you who have been reading my blog for awhile, you may know that Mondays I typically write about something that makes me smile.  I’ve decided to start another weekly feature on Fridays which is basically more of my favorite finds, but things that I wouldn’t necessarily write a whole post about.  There are many bloggers who have weekly posts about their favorite things for the week. I have been enjoying reading Kristin’s Friday Favorites on the Iowa Girl Eats blog.  I’ve decided to try and keep to things that I already own or that I’m currently enjoying.  I have a mug which was my souvenir from attending the Oprah show years ago that says, “Love what you’ve got.”  It’s easy to dream about all the things I want and places I want to see.  That’s what pinterest is for after all, but true joy lies in appreciating what you already have.   Simple joys aren’t always things (even though I write a lot about things), but for me they are also people, experiences, nature and spirituality.

This weeks list includes Spiced Chestnut Hand Soap from Williams Sonoma.  I wash my hands often and every time I do I enjoy the scent of this soap and lotion.  My friend Diane had it in her guest bathroom and I decided to treat myself with some before Christmas.  I recently bought two more on line because they went on sale, but I’m sad to say I no longer see it available on William Sonoma’s website.  They may still have it in stores though.  They are now featuring other scents, but I believe it’s something they carry every year and will reintroduce in the Fall.

Over Christmas break we bought the DVD Pitch Perfect.  I saw it when it was in the theaters and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was.  It’s about college a capella groups.  It can be a little on the raunchy side, Fat Amy is hysterical and I loved the music.  I also started watching the show Once Upon A Time which my friend Anne recommended.  Season One is on Netflix right now.  I’ve only watched a few shows so far, but it has a fun story line.   It’s about all the Fairy Tale characters we know and love who are stuck in present time at a place called Storybrooke, Maine.   An evil spell was cast on them years ago by  the evil queen and Snow White’s daughter holds the key to rescuing them.   It airs Sunday nights on ABC right before Revenge which is also a favorite of mine.  It’s a show the whole family can watch, but forewarned Rumpelstiltskin is a major creeper.

It’s almost time for a fresh pedicure, but I wanted to share with you the latest nail color I tried.  The World is Not Enough which is part of OPI’s James Bond collection.  I’m typically not a sparkly kind of gal, but I wanted something with a little sparkle for the new year.  I love the color and it has stayed on rather nicely.

I’ve also enjoyed walking outside this week since the temperature here has been pretty moderate upper 40’s and 50’s which isn’t bad for January.  What’s something that is currently bringing you joy?  Please share in the comments.  I’d love to hear from you.

I have just discovered homemade Greek yogurt…it is addictive! I am still trying to perfect the creaminess, but with a dash of vanilla and a few pecans and yummmm.

I may have to get that recipe from you. I like Chobani’s greek yogurt.
