Get Out of Your Box and Take a Class

August 4, 2016 by Dawn Pasco

Get Out of Your Box Challenge

Since it’s back to school month my challenge for you is to take a class on something that sparks your interest. I’m constantly on a learning quest so this month’s Get Out of Your Box Challenge isn’t much of a challenge for me unless the class is mechanics, physics or math. I enjoy taking classes on things that spark my interest. Be curious and pay attention to what catches your eye or sounds interesting.

I’ve taken numerous classes over the years.  You can read more about some of them here.  Some classes were on-line and others were at a location. I like doing a combination of both types of classes.  I enjoy the social interaction of classes held at a place, and I like the flexibility of taking classes at my own pace in the comfort of my home. I recently signed up for a class on Life With Intention through Jess Lively.  I listen to her podcasts and setting intentions is something I’m interested in learning more about. The class doesn’t officially start until September, but I signed up for the head start summer program.  Life With Intention requires a lot of soul-searching work and tapping into your intuition.

The list is endless when it comes to the types of classes you can find on the internet or in your local area.  The following is a list of ideas to get you started and hopefully spark your interest.

Class Ideas

  • Cooking classes – these can be found at your local recreation center, culinary institutes, and even some stores.  Williams Sonoma and Olive Tree are two places I’ve taken them.
  • Yoga
  • Tai Chi
  • Hand Lettering
  • Scrapbooking
  • Aromatheraphy
  • Gardening
  • Photography
  • Bird Watching
  • Design/Decorating
  • Woodworking
  • Business/Finance
  • Social Media
  • Sign Language
  • Creative Writing
  • Bible Study
  • Art Classes- mosaics, watercolor, oil painting, etc
  • Jewelry making

Skillshare is a website where you can learn a new skill a day with bite sizes lessons from over 7,000 classes.  Skillshare offers access to a certain number of free classes or you can pay a monthly fee and have access to the whole site. I have found there is a class on just about anything you can dream of and most of the videos are under 2 hours.

What type of class will you take this month?

Good grief! You forgot to add art classes like Mosaics!!! I just finished taking a color theory in oils class and last year I took a ceramics class at a local community center. We have many classes to choose from including beginner classes.

I actually thought of it after the fact 🙂 I’m not as artistic as you! I’ve noticed watercolor classes seem to be popular now.

As you know I’m stepping out of my box and into studying!!! Wow it’s challenging, just hoping I will do well. I won’t give up even though there is a voice inside me saying too…….
