Santa Claus and Fairy Houses

December 15, 2015 by Dawn Pasco

fairy houses and the gnomish

You may be wondering what Santa Claus and fairy houses have in common.  I shared the story of how some mysterious Fairy Houses where spreading joy in my community last year.  You can read the story and see photos of these incredible little fairy houses here.  It was a mystery for a quite awhile as to who created these houses nestled in the woods along a community nature trail.  People would often stop in wonder as to who left the inspirational messages tucked inside these various little woodland retreats.

One day as mysteriously as they arrived, the fairy houses disappeared. It was said the person moved out of the area and took them with them.  I couldn’t fathom why they would do such a thing.  What originally brought me joy left me feeling perplexed and a little bitter.  A few months later my friend read in the paper that a short film called The Gnomist was created about the fairy houses.  The story behind the houses and it’s creator would be revealed.   My husband came across this video of The Gnomist and it is worth the 17 minutes and 24 seconds it takes to watch it.

The Gnomist is what Santa Claus and the spirit of Christmas is all about. Santa mysteriously arrives in the night spreading joy and good cheer. He selflessly gives gifts expecting nothing in return.  Okay, maybe a few cookies and a glass of milk. However, what Santa gets in return is seeing the joy and the smiles of those people who receive his gifts.  My daughter was heartbroken the year she learned the truth about Santa, but The Gnomist is a classic example of real life Santas who live among us instead of in the North Pole.

It’s also a great example of how you never know how random acts of kindness and one good deed can make a person’s day.  There’s still time to share one of your good deeds on this post for a chance to win a Target gift card. The drawing ends December 17.

I had no idea this video existed! Thank you for sharing it! Heartwarming. It probably would have been smart to warn first that it’s a tear jerker! 😉
