For Dog Lovers Only

August 26, 2014 by Dawn Pasco

Fritz

Today is National Dog Day.  Author and Pet LifeStyle Expert Colleen Paige created the day in 2004 to honor dogs, and to give them “a day” which shows our deep appreciation for them.   Dogs impact our lives in many ways through their loyalty, companionship, and unconditional love.  Many dogs put their lives on the line every day by assisting law enforcement officials and providing safety for the blind and disabled.  Many have also saved lives.

Miniature Schnauzers

My dog Fritz and his buddy Charlie look like they could be brothers.  Charlie is like a little brother who likes to follow Fritz around.  This picture of them sporting Fourth of July leis makes me smile.

My husband would say that every day is National Dog Day at our home.  My miniature schnauzer Fritz leaves a pretty good life filled with sleeping, snacking and daily walks.  Occasionally he even gets to play with neighborhood friends.  There are millions of dogs  however that don’t have a great start to life and are euthanized each year because they are unwanted.  You can check out National Dog Day’s website to find out more about their organization and on Facebook. If you are on Instagram post a photo of your dog and use #nationaldogday so they can feature your dog on their page.

Rescued Dogs

A neighbor of ours recently rescued  the little cutie in this picture while on vacation in Arkansas.  Her daughter spotted a Puppies For Sale sign along the road and although they weren’t looking for another dog, they couldn’t help but rescue her. The conditions she was living in were disgusting and the owners looked like they couldn’t even take of themselves much less dogs.  I’m happy to say Lakelee is currently enjoying a great life with her new owners and her older sister Bentlie who is also a rescue dog.

If you just can’t get enough of dogs.  Check out these past posts- Dogs and Henry Make Me Smile and Dog Love.
