Winter Must-Haves

January 9, 2014 by Dawn Pasco

Winter Must Haves
Winter Must Haves by dpasco featuring a lip treatment

Winter is in full force in the Midwest and other parts of the United States so I thought I ‘d share some of my go to items during the winter months.  My friend Stacey inspired me after I read a list of her winter musts.  I decided to focus primarily on things that keep me warm and products that moisturize my extremely dry skin.
1. I love Fresh Sugar Lip Balms. They come in a variety of colors.  The Rose is my favorite which gives my lips a little color and is very natural looking. Fresh Sugar lip balms have a nice scent and glide on your lips.
2. I use Carmex when my lips are chapped.  I also like to rub it on my cuticles which get really dry especially during the winter months.  A nail technician gave me that tip and it works great.
3. Origins Ginger Souffle Cream has a refreshing light scent that wakes up my senses and feels great on my skin.  I used to use it years ago after it came out as one of Oprah’s favorite things.  I purchased some again this year as a treat to myself.
4.Vaseline is a great multitasker.  I use it to remove mascara and on my chapped skin.  My hands get really dry in the winter and are prone to cracking and bleeding at times.  Sounds delightful doesn’t it? When my hands get really bad, I put vaseline on them and wear cotton gloves for a few hours or overnight.  It really helps and works on dry feet as well.
5. Trader Joe’s Coconut Body Butter is a nice thick cream which my skin soaks up and it’s fairly inexpensive.
6. My Ugg slippers keep my feet warm. I don’t have to wear socks with them and I’ve found them to be worth the investment even though the lining does wear out over time.  I wear them constantly when I’m at home.
7. Stacey and I both have Smartwool Socks on our list.  I have been wearing these socks for years.  They come in a variety of styles, have extra cushioning in the heel and keep my feet warm.  I have Reynaud’s syndrome and my hands and feet go numb if they get really cold.  These socks are pricey, but they’re worth it.
What are your winter must-haves?  Please share in the comments. I use a a ton of different hand creams and still haven’t one I love that moisturizes, but isn’t greasy.  Any suggestions?

I use Carmex every single night of my life. I think I might be addicted to it! 😉 I am off to order that Origins body cream right now…it looks amazing! This is a great list! :)-Ashley

I just gave my Carmex to my son for his chapped lips. I need to stock up on more. I hope you like the Origins cream. If you like the smell of ginger you will love it 🙂

Oh Products! I love products! My winter ‘must haves’ are:

Cuddle Duds. they now make an active style that has a little spandex in them, so they are a closer fit. I wear them to bed and often times under my clothes. I can even wear the pants under leggings and you can’t seen them, but they give a little added warmth in this cold weather. AND, you can get them at Target!

And I absolutely cannot live without good old fashioned Chapstick. It works. Plus, if you get a paper cut (which i seem to get more of in winter), you can rub a little chapstick in the cut for instant relief and protection.

I’m going to have to check out Cuddle Duds. Thanks for sharing 🙂 I think my daughter would especially love them. My favorite Chapstick is the mint.

I also own a pair of Ugg rylan slippers and I love, LOVE them. I also do not wear socks with them – or any other of my Ugg’s unless it is SUPER cold or I’m at a cold Chiefs game. They are worth every penny! I bought my husband and one of my daughters a pair of Ugg slippers because I believe so strongly that they are the best, most comfortable shoes.
I cannot be without my Blistex Five Star. It is smooth, protective and smells great! I use Carmex when I have super chapped lips, but that is rare because I constantaly use my Blistex Five Star. I have a bit of of an obsession with it – it’s in almost every room of my house and I have 2-3 in my purse. LOL!!

I am a huge Smartwool fan…I try to add a couple pairs of socks to my collection every winter. And I would LOVE to have Ugg slippers! My big cannot live without is Arbonne scrub for my feet, and Dream Cream from Lush which I use nonstop!

oooh, good picks! and thanks for the cuticle tip! i don’t typically like uggs, but those Ugg slippers look comfy for in-house use. 🙂

I’m not a big Ugg boot person either, but I did just buy a pair that are leather and keep my feet warm (more for practicality than style).

Love your tips! I didn’t know carmex could be used for cuticles…I will have to try it.

It works great. I like to keep one in my purse, because it’s always at the oddest times that I notice my cuticles are really dry.

I didn’t even know Trader Joe’s made a body butter! I love that store but rarely check out the beauty items. And Carmex! I have sworn by it since 8th grade.
