Why I Blog

December 23, 2013 by Dawn Pasco

#KC plaza lights

I often have to check in with myself and ask the question, “Why do I blog?” Blogging is a way for me to creatively share and document my favorite finds, recipes, places and experiences.  Blogging  can be very time consuming, but I enjoy it and it makes me accountable.  I’m a huge procrastinator and my blog gives me some structure in terms of getting things done and trying new things.

I enjoy writing and photography and I’m able to work on those skills through blogging.  I’ve grown and learned a lot since my first post on February 2, 2012.  My friend Adri said she likes to go back and read the first post of blogs.  It shows how we all have to start somewhere and people typically don’t start off being experts at everything.  It gave me the motivation to look back on my own work and see how much I’ve grown.  If you find yourself with a little down time this holiday season you can look back on my past posts by clicking on the Archive button in the right side bar of my blog.  I’ve also added a drop down menu to my recipes category at the top of the page so you can search for past recipes a lot easier.

I’m inspired by all of the creativity that exists in this world, and I enjoy sharing those projects that catch my eye.  I have a lot of creative friends and I often enjoy sharing their work.  Sometimes I get a little tired of writing about myself.  I’m also inspired by the good that exists in this world. I believe it’s all the little things you do each day that are most important.  My hope is that by sharing all of these things, it inspires you to try something new and share a little bit of yourself with others.

I appreciate when I receive comments or when you share a post on facebook, pinterest, twitter or google plus. When that happens I feel like Sally Field at the Academy Awards, “They like me, they really like me.”  It not only boosts my ego, but helps me grow. Thanks for taking the time to read my blog.  I hope you’ll continue to follow me as I learn and grow.

For those of you that subscribe to my facebook page, facebook is trying to get pages like mine to pay for you all (my followers) to see my posts. If you don’t want to miss a post, can you please do me a favor? Hover over the “Liked” button at the top of my page, & click on “Get Notifications.” This help ensures you don’t miss a thing! Also, commenting, liking or sharing posts helps more of you see my posts as well.  I promise I won’t overload your news feed. I typically post once or twice a day and share other posts that inspire me.

Happy Holidays  to you all.  I hope you feel JOY in your hearts this holiday season and have a great start to the New Year!  I will be taking a little break until January 6.

You know I love your blog, Dawn! Nearly everything on my wish list for my husband is either from your blog or from something I saw at your house last week! Your recipes have been a hit, and that’s saying a lot for my family. And it has become a joke in our home– whenever I suggest something new or even ask someone a question, Rigley usually comments (with a smile on his face) “did Mrs. Pasco blog about it?”

Thanks Kristine, I’m glad you’re enjoying the recipes and my favorite finds. I’m feeling the pressure 🙂 I hope you like that Williams Sonoma winter scent 🙂 Have a Merry Christmas!

    Dawn,

I enjoy your blog so much! It’s getting to the point that when I try a new recipe my family asks “is this from the blog?”! Thinking of you and your family as we “enjoyed” (I came in last EVERY time) playing 5 Crowns the last few nights. I had dog walking duty for losing the first night and have to buy Emily a milkshake for last night’s major loss! Still fun! Have a very Merry Christmas!

Thanks Karen. I hope the family has enjoyed the recipes. I’m also glad you like Five Crowns. It’s one of our favorites. I hope your losing streak comes to an end quickly. Have a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year!

I always think about that Adri comment, about seeing growth in all bloggers when you back to their very first blog. It always makes me think about how far everyone has come! And how far each of us has come.

Where did you hear about that Facebook thing? Have you read anything about it officially? If you could point me to a blog or two, I would love that!

Meanwhile, I’m so glad you blog and I’m so glad to have gotten to know you through our blogs (and in person!). Looking forward to when our paths cross again! Happy New Year! xoxo

Happy New Year Stacey! I have read from several blogs posts about the facebook thing. There hasn’t necessarily been a specific post about it, just lots of comments. Michelle at http://www.adishofdailylife.com might be a good resource to ask. From my own experience, I have over 900 fb followers and my insights show that only 20 people on average will see a post. When someone likes something those numbers go up, but I find the ratio of followers to who sees the post is very small.
