Sea Glass

June 20, 2013 by Dawn Pasco

coastal tables cape

This coastal tablescape is from Pottery Barn.  I could live in that store!  I don’t know if it’s because I dream of living by the ocean, but I love coastal decor (minus the flamingos that is).  I thought this tablescape had some fun ideas I could replicate without spending a fortune on new dishes and glassware.  The center of the table has an assortment of glass vases and bottles filled with shells, white candles and sand.  I have an abundance of shells from past beach vacations, but if you don’t, you can purchase them at craft stores and Pottery Barn.  The table was covered with a white tablecloth and a fisherman’s net thrown over it.  You can usually find the nets at craft stores or party supply places.

I think what I really love about this table though is the sea glass.  Sea glass can be hard to find on certain beaches.  I purchased a bag a few years ago from Pottery Barn.  I also like that the plates coordinate with the pale green sea glass bottles.  It makes the setting feel very calm and serene.  Not everyone has pale green plates (myself included), but I think white would also work.  You could also add a little pale green accent to each place setting.  Not everyone has sea glasses vases either, but as luck would have it during my many hours spent pinning things on pinterest I came across this image of DIY sea glass vases from Sand and Sisal.

I had no idea you could make your own sea glass.  Kim gives instructions on how to make your own sea glasses vases using recycled jars and Martha Stewart Crafts Glass Paint.  I follow Sand and Sisal’s boards on pinterest and created my own Coastal Living board as well.  If you’d like to follow me on pinterest click here.   Does this inspire you to create a coastal tablescape?  If so, let me know and I’ll bring the shrimp cocktail and mojitos!

    Hi Dawn!

That is a gorgeous tablescape! And you’re right! It would be so easy to replicate. I love when you arrive at a dinner party and find a styled table — it so easily makes a person feel like they’ve been invited somewhere special!

    xoxo,
    Stacey

That is so true! I appreciate the extra effort that goes into making a table look beautiful. It makes me feel like royalty. (I’ve been catching up on Downton Abbey)
