Pillow Covers

splurge vs steal by dpasco on Polyvore

Pottery Barn Textured Linen Pillow Cover / Shop allen + roth 18-in W x 18-in L Coffee Square Accent Pillow Cover…
I love when magazines do splurge versus steal columns.  Last summer I was looking for some pillows for my new sunroom couch.  I came across some pillow covers in an assortment of colors at of all places Lowe’s home improvement store.  They look very similar to pillow covers I had previously purchased from my favorite store Pottery Barn.  The Pottery Barn pillow covers are linen and softer than the covers at Lowe’s. However, if you like the style and softness isn’t a concern the covers at Lowe’s are a steal.  You will need to purchase an insert for the covers, but Lowe’s also sells the feather pillows at a fraction of the cost you would find at Pottery Barn or other stores.  Both pillow covers are 18 inches.  The Pottery Barn pillow cover is currently on sale for $20 and the Allen and Roth cover at Lowe’s is $7.97.  If you have a splurge versus steal item you’d like to share send me an email at dawn@joyfulscribblings.com.

I do have a splurge vs. steal and it is a Pottery Barn vs. Lowe’s as well! For our farmhouse, I wanted the antique glass ball ceiling light at PB (it is no longer in the online catelog). It was a big glass ball, adjustable with a chain. About $350 if I remember correctly. I didn’t love it that much. At Lowe’s I found it’s twin….Allen & Roth for $119. The shape might be a little different, but it is exactly what I was looking for at a fraction of the cost. I love Lowe’s! http://www.lowes.com/pd_198671-2121-2428A_4294935637__?productId=3388492&Ns=p_product_qty_sales_dollar|1

BTW….The Wall Street Journal had an ENTIRE page dedicated to the pillow cover last week! Pottery Barn of course was the cheapie!

Thanks for sharing! I love the light. I still haven’t purchased one for my master closet yet. That’s too funny that the Wall Street Journal was talking about pillow covers.

I never (never!) would have known the pillow on the right wasn’t Pottery Barn if you didn’t tell us! WOW!

[…] Lip treatment / Maybelline® Baby Lips® Moisturizing Lip … : Target I love a good splurge versus steal.  I have shared some of my favorite lip balms in the past HERE.  Fresh Sugar is one of those.  It glides onto your lips smoothly, has a nice scent and leaves a hint of color.  The Rosé is my favorite lip tint.  It’s a little on the pricey side for a lip balm, but worth every penny.  However, if money is tight I recently discovered a similar product with a smaller price tag. Maybelline makes a moisturizing lip balm called Baby Lips.  You may have come across it at Wal-Mart or Target.  Baby Lips also has a few shade options and a sunscreen option which is great for a day at the pool or beach.  I actually first read about it on a blog, but unfortunately can’t remember which one.  I made a mental to note to give it a try and then I saw my sister-in-law carrying it.  She loves a good and inexpensive beauty find and recommended it as well. Are you familiar with Baby Lips or Fresh Sugar and how would you rate them?  Leave a comment. For another favorite splurge vs. steal click  HERE. […]

[…] 7. Change your pillows out for the season with new pillows.  I like to buy feather pillow inserts and then rotate pillow covers.  I love Pottery Barn’s pillow covers and I also shared a similar option in this splurge vs. steal post. […]
